Seasonal Forecast 2024 / 2025

Highlights

  • The 2024/25 rainfall season is expected to be influenced by neutral ENSO conditions, with a weak La Niña likely to develop between September and November 2024.
  • For October–November–December 2024, most parts of Namibia are forecast to receive normal to above-normal rainfall.
The Karas region and most of Hardap are expected to have a high likelihood of below-normal rainfall during OND 2024.
  • The season may have a slow start in October, but rainfall is expected to improve during the rest of the period.
  • For January–February–March 2025, the whole country is expected to have high chances of normal to above-normal rainfall.
  • The forecast suggests potential benefits for agriculture, including improved crop production, better grazing conditions, and replenished water resources.
  • However, increased rainfall may also raise risks of flooding, waterlogging, crop pests, livestock diseases, infrastructure damage, and public health concerns.
  • Southern regions are advised to prepare for possible drier conditions and strengthen water conservation measures.
