The 2024/25 rainfall season is expected to be influenced by neutral ENSO conditions, with a weak La Niña likely to develop between September and November 2024.
For October–November–December 2024, most parts of Namibia are forecast to receive normal to above-normal rainfall. The Karas region and most of Hardap are expected to have a high likelihood of below-normal rainfall during OND 2024.
The season may have a slow start in October, but rainfall is expected to improve during the rest of the period.
For January–February–March 2025, the whole country is expected to have high chances of normal to above-normal rainfall.
The forecast suggests potential benefits for agriculture, including improved crop production, better grazing conditions, and replenished water resources.
However, increased rainfall may also raise risks of flooding, waterlogging, crop pests, livestock diseases, infrastructure damage, and public health concerns.
Southern regions are advised to prepare for possible drier conditions and strengthen water conservation measures.
