Monthly Climate Bulletin Highlight
- January 2026 was notably drier across most of Namibia, following an exceptionally wet December, and ranked as the 8th driest January since 1981.
- The highest rainfall was mainly recorded in the Zambezi Region, with Sachona recording 442.9 mm, followed by Kasheshe with 338.0 mm and Katima Mulilo ADC with 311.0 mm.
- Below-average rainfall affected the bulk of the country, while Zambezi, Kavango-West, much of Oshikoto, and parts of Kunene and Otjozondjupa recorded normal rainfall.
- On a seasonal scale from October 2025 to January 2026, the north-eastern, central-northern, and south-eastern parts of Namibia recorded above-normal rainfall, while the coastal and south-western areas remained below normal.
- Temperatures were mostly below normal in central and north-western Namibia, linked to cloud cover and rainfall, while south-central and south-eastern Namibia experienced significantly above-normal temperatures, indicating reduced rainfall and increased heat stress.
